The Skinny House is located on Hull Street in Boston, Massachusetts. At 10.4 feet wide it is thought to be the narrowest house in the city. Built sometime after the Civil War, it sits on Copp's Hill across from the Burying Ground, in the North End. It is believed to have been built as a spite house, a house which is constructed to annoy someone else. Legend says that the piece of land was inherited by two brothers, the first of whom was away serving in the military while the second proceeded to build his home using almost the entire plot of land, leaving only a small portion for his brother. When the first brother returned home to find out what had happened, he built his home on the tiny remaing portion, blocking out the sun and the view from his brother.
