The San Remo is located on Central Park West in New York City. It is an apartment building constructed in 1929 and designed by architect Emery Roth. Roth was responsible for the building's then unique layout. The 27 floor structure has two distinctive towers rising from the 18th floor, both of which are topped by Corinthian Temples crowned with copper lanterns. This Upper West Side apartment has been home to many celebrities over the years, including Steven Spielberg, Dustin Hoffman, Hedy Lamarr, Eddie Cantor, Tony Randall and U2 frontman Bono. This was also the last residence of screen star Rita Hayworth. In 1981 she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease and placed under the care of her daughter, Yasmin Khan, who moved her mother into an apartment next to hers here at the San Remo. She passed away here on May 14, 1987.
