John Garfield's death site is at Gramercy Park West in New York City. It was here, at the apartment of friend Iris Whitney, that the actor passed away. He had been blacklisted by Hollywood following his testimony before The House Un-American Activities Committee, so in search of work he returned to New York to appear on Broadway. On May 20, 1952 Garfield met his friend, actress Iris Whitney, for dinner. Later in the evening he complained of not feeling well, and they went back to this Gramercy Park West apartment so he could rest. The next morning she found him dead in his bed from a heart attack.
