The Interview With The Vampire house is located on Divisadero Street in San Francisco, California. It was here that the interview in Anne Rice's famous horror novel was said to have taken place. In 1973, shortly after the death of her daughter, Rice began revising a short story she had written in 1968. After five weeks work the book was completed. Alfred A. Knopf published the novel, the first in her Vampire Chronicles, in May 1976 to generally negative reviews. The first sequel, The Vampire Lestat, was published in 1985. Author Rice lived in the area and was inspired enough by this house to use it as the setting for the home in which Louis lives.
