The Hell's Angels home is on Ashbury Street in San Francisco, California. In this circa 1900 Queen Anne Victorian house the notorious motor cycle club set up their headquarters. They had been in San Francisco since their first chapter opened here in 1953, but it wasn't until the late 1960's that they moved in the Haight district. They became fixtures in the community and even provided security for the infamous concert held at the Altamont Speedway in 1969. There the Angels rode roughshod over the fans and even had run-ins with the performers. This culminated with the stabbing death of a patron at the hands of the biker group. Here on Ashbury, the Hell's Angels were neighbors with The Grateful Dead and Janis Joplin.
