Pearl Bailey's home in New York City is on Bank Street. The actress/ singer lived here during her run on Hello, Dolly! The musical originally appeared on Broadway in 1964 with Carol Channing in the lead role. It would go on to win 10 Tony Awards and wind up as one of the longest running shows in Broadway history. However, by 1967 the show was beginning to lose its steam so producer David Merrick tried to rejuvinate it by switching to an all black cast. The revamped show debuted on November, 12, 1967, with Pearl Bailey in the lead role as Dolly Levi. Response to the show was so great that a second cast album was recorded and released and Bailey would go on to win a special Tony Award in 1968 for her performance in the play.
