John Lennon's home in Liverpool is on Newcastle Road. It was here the future Beatles singer/songwriter spent the first five years of his life. Lennon was born October 9, 1940, at the Liverpool Maternity Hospital to Julia and Alfred Lennon. Alfred was away at war during the first few years of his son's life, returning in 1944. The couple's relationship had soured and although Alfred would try to gain custody of John, he would ultimately move away with his mother to Mendips in 1945. The home on Newcastle Road is just two blocks away from Penny Lane.
