Jim Thorpe Birthplace Site - Oklahoma

Jim Thorpe's birthplace site is on North Jim Thorpe Boulevard in Prague, Oklahoma. Sitting in front of the Prague Historical Museum is a marker commemorating the birth nearby of sports legend Jim Thorpe.  He was born in Indian Territory, in the community of Bellemont, he later claimed, on May 22, 1887, near present day Prague, to a half Irish, half Sac and Fox Indian father, and a half French, half Potawatomi mother. He was raised as a Sac and Fox, and his birth name, Wa-Tho-Huk, meant "Bright Path."
