Arthur Conan Doyle's home is on Upper Wimpole Street in London. The creator of Sherlock Holmes opened his opthalmology practice while living here, at 2 Upper Wimpole, then known as 2 Devonshire Place. He was not only an author but also a doctor and received his Bachelor of Medicine in 1891. After studying medicine in Vienna he moved back to London in early 1891 and opened his practice but by the end of the year he had given up medicine to pursue his first love of writing. In August he moved to Tennison Road. There is a blue plaque marking the location.
